
(Cromwell, Conn./WTIC) - Opening ceremonies for this year's Travelers Championship took place today at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
Governor Ned Lamont, the honorary tournament chair and Katie Joyner, a former camper at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, hit the ceremonial tee shots. Five of the top ten players in the world head the field this year.
Three-time winner Bubba Watson will defend his 2018 crown among the likes of number one ranked Brooks Koepka, 6th-ranked Francesco Molinari and 7th-ranked Justin Thomas.
Tour favorites and former Traveler's champions Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth will also take part.
Wednesday's Celebrity Pro-Am features a mix of sports, broadcasting and entertainment notables. Among them: comedian George Lopez, ESPN's Chris Berman, former UConn men's basketball coach and current St. Joseph head coach Jim Calhoun, and former Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield.
Tournament play begins Thursday.
