MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut State Police say drunken driving arrests were down by nearly 50% this Memorial Day weekend compared to last year, but the number of car crashes rose. State police Tuesday say they made 20 DUI arrests in the holiday weekend reporting period from 12:01 a.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Monday. That compares to 38 DUI arrests in the four-day period in 2018. But troopers investigated 341 accidents this year, 52 involving injury and one involving a fatality. Last year, troopers investigated 313 crashes, 62 with injury and one involving a fatality. Police cited 607 people for speeding this year, compared to 909 speeding tickets in 2018.
