HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - For many, it's an annual tradition: opening day of trout fishing season in Connecticut.

The 2019 season kicks off at 6am tomorrow (Saturday April 13th).

State Fisheries Biologist Brian Eltz says the Farmington River is among the top spots for trout. Other prime fishing locations include the Housatonic River, the Mill River Fairfield, and Mill River Hamden.

Eltz says they were unable to stock Sleeping Giant State Park this year. That park currently remains closed due to tree damage from the tornado that struck in 2018.

In total, more than 300,000 trout have been released into nearly 100 lakes and ponds, and 130 rivers and streams across the state.
