NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart says she will not run for Connecticut Governor in 2022.
In a statement released Sunday night, she said her family responsibilities come first. Stewart gave birth to a daughter last summer. Stewart has admitted that she and her husband have been struggling to balance "...our work duties with our new family obligations."
She says another reason why she is ruling out a run for Governor is because she has sworn to serve the people of New Britain. She seeks a fifth term as Mayor, saying she wants to bring "...New Britain into a post-pandemic boom."
Even without a bid to run, Stewart insists "...there is no question that the State of Connecticut could benefit from new ideas and a fresh perspective."
No other prominent state republicans have announced their plans to run for Governor in 2022.
