(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Some of the coldest weather of the season is moving into the region.
AAA is reminding motorists to make sure their vehicle is ready for the elements as temperatures plunge into the single digits over the next several nights.
Spokesperson Amy Parmenter of Greater Hartford AAA says keep in mind that the average shelf life for a vehicle battery is about three years.
AAA can come out and check it for members if need be.
Also: make sure your tires are properly inflated. Pressure can decrease in extreme cold, causing a hazard.
It's also a good idea to keep a couple of blankets, an extra coat, snacks, and emergency equipment like jumper cable in the car for if you do become stranded.
Parmenter says they're gearing up for a marked increase in their number of calls for assistance this weekend.
