Yale University buildings and neighboring businesses got the "all-clear" early Friday night after an unnerving afternoon touched off, officials say, by a bomb threat.
Mayor Justin Elicker told reporters that the New Haven Police non-emergency line took a phone call just before 2 pm. The caller threatened specific buildings at Yale.
"We do have detectives from both Yale and New Haven who are working together," said New Haven Police Chief Renee Dominguez, "to put together all the pieces of information that we have from the call and to determine who this person was and to try to identify them fast."
Traffic was shut down on York, Elm, College and Crown streets-- and all buildings within that perimeter were cleared. Teams of police with bomb-sniffing dogs inspected each building before the all-clear was given.
