MIDDLETOWN, Connecticut (WTIC Radio)
Fire investigators say nearly two dozen people are homeless after a fire broke out at a three story Middletown apartment complex early Saturday morning. The fire at the Hogan House on Pleasant street broke out before 3am. Residents managed to escape the flames, and are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. WFSB Channel 3 spoke with one person who lives on the third floor who said he started banging on everyone’s doors to make sure people got out. When he got to one of his neighbor’s doors, he said there was heavy fire and smoke and while running out of the building. He said his neighbor told him how he thinks the fire started.

“It was a wall of fire on the third floor, and he stumbled out and I said ‘get out, get out, get out.’ I helped get some people out,” explained Ezra Welch. “I asked him as we went downstairs. I said kind of what happened, and he revealed to me that he had put his clothing on the radiator and that started the fire.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
