UConn's Bueckers named AP Player of the Year

(San Antonio, TX/WTIC) - UConn women's basketball player Paige Bueckers has been selected the 2021 AP Player of the Year.

The 19-year-old is the first freshman to ever win the coveted award.

Bueckers, a native of Hopkins, Minnesota, has enjoyed a banner first season in Storrs in leading the Huskies to their 13th consecutive Final Four.

She leads the team in scoring at 20.3 points per game, as well as assists and steals.

Bueckers adds Player of the Year honors to her 2021 Big East Player and Freshman of the Year nods.

The 28-1 Huskies take on the Wildcats of Arizona in the Final Four from San Antonio, Texas at 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
