West Haven,Conn.-WTIC)-Joined by MTA and union representatives, Senator Richard Blumenthal called on Congress to provide financial relief to counter cuts by Metro North affecting more than nine thousand jobs.
Metro North announced last month that without $12 billion in federal assistance from Congress, both its service and workforce would be reduced. It blames the Covid-19 pandemic. The commuter line is counting on Congress to provide relief. Congress returns to work today.
"It's been building. Ridership has been dropping, 80-percent less than last year at this time. Money has been hemorrhaging. Even with the best management, cost-cutting is insufficient to save service at this time, " he said.
