(Waterford, Conn. WTIC)-Second District Congressman Joe Courtney, appearing virtually before the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, touted the federal budget released May 28th, that provides General Dynamics with two Virginia-Class submarines and funding for its Columbia program.
Courtney says the infrastructure bill is being marked up today. Under it, funding is provided for the Gold Star Bridge in New London and the Old Saybrook Rail Bridge.
Regarding infrastructure, Courtney says Connecticut is receiving an increase of fifty percent.
Courtney says employment is the biggest issue facing eastern Connecticut, despite three hundred job openings at General Dynamics.
He says the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board is working to fill that gap by providing skilled training. Courtney hopes that model can be expanded to cover healthcare, financial services and other skill sets.
