(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-Former Good Morning America Host Joan Lunden, a breast cancer surivor, urged a legislative committee to approve a measure where insurance companies would provide coverage to advance breast health, including mammograms and MRI's, "with no burdensome out-of-pocket costs."
Lunden was diagnosed in 2014 with stage two breast cancer, enduring a year of chemotherapy.
Lunden says while covering a story, a Doctor urged her to get an MRI. That's when the Cancer was discovered. Lundon says oftentimes women wait to get tested because of the expense, and then it's too late.
Lunden testified before the Insurance and Real Estate Committee.
She says when a woman is worried about breast cancer, it's not the time to weigh the pros and cons of her finances.
Further, Lunden says early coverage can save insurance companies costs over time.
