(Waterford, Conn. WTIC)-Governor Ned Lamont spoke before the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, promoting the state Pier in New London, his Transportation Climate Initiative and commented on the recent approval by the Judiciary Committee of the recreational use of marijuana by adults.
Lamont said negotiations over the state pier were tough and took longer than he anticipated. He says under the deal, the city of New London receives 750-thousand dollars, the utilities contributed and the state put up the rest. Lamont calls the deal transformative. He adds the Biden Administration has already signed off on the wind mills to be built off-shore.
Regarding transportation, the Governor says state roads are old and creaky and in need of repair. But he also says he's meeting today with AT&T about placing broadband on Connecticut's railway cars, making it one of the few in the country to perform that rollout.
On adult use of marijuana approved by a legislative committee, Lamont says it's the right time to do it. He says now state residents can travel to Massachusetts or New York but must worry about a poisonous product. Lamont says he hopes it's carefully regulated and the money goes to municipalities to reduce property taxes.
