Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-Governor Ned Lamont addressed a business forum offering his thoughts on wide-ranging issues, including Covid, his Climate Initiative, the need for urban reform and a proposal for the Unemployment Trust Fund.
Lamont said he knows his Climate Initiative is unpopular, but necessary. The five cent a gallon tax will be used for both transportation and health purposes.
On the Covid front, the Governor says he hopes the strain in Europe stays away from our state, adding " it makes the vaccines more important." He said the Department of Health and Human Services provided 50-thousand more doses this week but getting the vaccines are " stumbling blocks."
Lamont says young people hold the key to urban reform. " We have to be a Champion for the cities and without young people we're not going to make it."
Lamont also suggested that the Unemployment Trust Fund be turned into grants. He says in all fifty states, the fund is underwater, "that would save small businesses and allow the state to avoid raising rates."
Lamont addressed the Connecticut Business and Industry Summit.
