(Hartford, Conn.WTIC)-Most Christmas Tree Farms in Connecticut are open for business this weekend, prompting an official to predict big sales this season.

Kathy Kogut is the Executive Director of the Connecticut Christmas Tree Growers Association. She says everybody is anxious to get their Christmas Tree because they have been stuck at home because of Covid. Kogut says there have been a lot of telephone calls and people checking on the internet to see when farms will be open.

Tree farms are opening this weekend for two reasons."People want their trees earlier and they're trying to spread the people out for covid regulations. people have to wear masks and social distance. unfortunately their won't be any wagon rides or Santa visits," she said.

The regulations include 100 customer limit, 10 people in a group, including  proper signage, tellling people where to stand and where to go.

Christmas Trees represent the largest agricultural commodity  in the  state of  Connecticut,  most acreage-planted trees. Kogut  says that's because  most  trees remain there for ten years.

Her advice, "it's important to keep your tree constantly hydrated, because we sufffered a drought this year and the tree might be a little drier than normal."

Connecticut boats bout five hundred Christmas Tree farms.

Kogut says this year will be a memory maker "with a lot of silly hats, ugly sweaters and festive masks as people get their Christmas tree."
