(Hartford, Conn. WTIC) The CEO of the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford pledges to rebuild after a devastating fire destroyed buildings at the camp, built by actor Paul Newman in 1988.
CEO Jimmy Canton applauds the Travelers Insurance company for pledging one million in matching funds. So far $400-thousand has been pledged. One thousand of the pledges are derived from Facebook and GoFundMe efforts.
And in a new development, Newman's own company is pledging one million dollars.
Canton says insurance money will be insufficient to rebuild the camp to meet today's needs. In the late 80's, it was a summer camp serving a couple of hundred children with severe illnesses. Now it accommodates 20-thousand students year around.
You can pledge at hole in the wall gang.org.
