Turkey Sales Are Brisk at Sterling Farm

Customers are requesting smaller birds
Turkey sales have increased but the size of the bird is smaller

(Sterling, Conn-WTIC)- The owner of the Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm says turkey sales are up substantially, but customers requesting smaller birds.
Rick Hermonot says earlier in the year he was concerned with Covid that Turkey sales would decrease. But he adds that's not the case. Hermonot says his feeling is people are eating at home this year.
"The average bird is 20lbs and our bird range is 20-35 pounds. We usually average around 20 pounds This year the average is down around 17. With the average bird around 20(pounds) it's going to be a challenge.", he said.
But Hermonot says they'll have enough birds to satisfy Thanksgiving sales. The 12-hundred square foot store practices social distancing and offers curb-side service.
