Police release ID of car fire victim

(West Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - West Hartford police have released the name of a man who died this month in a vehicle fire in town.

It was just before 4:00 a.m. on February 3 that an officer noticed a vehicle engulfed in flames in a parking lot at Kane Street, site of a former ShopRite supermarket.


The victim has now been identified as 66-year-old Stephen Pelletier of Hartford.

According to police, the officer broke a window in an attempt to view and enter the vehicle, but the officer couldn't see inside due to the smoke and flames.

After the fire was extinguished, police say they discovered Pelletier inside the vehicle, dead at the scene.  Detectives say he was the sole occupant

The incident remains under investigation.
