Cromwell, Conn. (WTIC RADIO) - The rise in energy prices has some fearing it could be a long, cold winter for consumers.
Gasoline is up over a dollar a gallon from this point a year ago.

Home heating oil prices, which have trended downward, still aren't what they were before.
Natural gas was supposed to be the elixir when former Governor Dannel Malloy unveiled a plan to get more homes and businesses to covert years ago.
Chris Herb, the president of the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association, said some are calling on the government to tap into the strategic oil reserve.
That would deplete the supply should an actual emergency arise, Herb said.
For now, the hope is prices will stabilize in the next few months, he said.
Supply and demand and Wall Street speculation are two factors helping to drive up prices, Herb said.
