(Cheshire, Conn./WTIC) - The CIAC is out with its guidance regarding fall sports for the upcoming school year.

The conference says it has taken steps ensure safety while still in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

All sports are scheduled to start on time, play a full regular season and post-season schedule.

Fall sports include football, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, golf, swimming and cross country.

CIAC, along with the state Department of Public Health and other sports organizations is strongly encouraging coaches and participants aged 12 and up to be vaccinated.

Sports in indoor settings like volleyball will require athletes to be masked, regardless of vaccination status.

The same applies for swimming around active practice and competition but not in the water.

Football players, those running cross country, golfers and field hockey players won't be required to mask up during competition outdoors, but must wear a mask indoors in locker rooms and team rooms.

Also, the CIAC says fully vaccinated athletes and staff who are a close contact with a known Covid-19 case won't have to quarantine provided they remain asymptomatic.

Those who are unvaccinated who are a close contact will be required to quarantine for ten days with a negative test at seven-to-ten days, or two weeks without a test.

The conference says plan remains fluid and circumstances could dictate changes.
