HARTFORD, Connecticut
Work site safety is the focus as speed cameras will be rolled out this week by the state D.O.T. Officials say of the 8 million vehicles they tracked in work zones, 1.3 million were traveling 10 or more miles over the posted speed limit. Starting Monday violators will be issued a warning, then starting June 6th, there will be a 75 dollar fine for a second offense.
The first three cameras will go up at construction sites in West Haven, East Lyme and Colchester, with four mobile units posted at highway maintenance sites. Signs will alert drivers to the cameras.
