Fan favorite and second-ranked player in the world Rory McIlroy has chosen not to play in this year's Travelers Championship, which tees off Thursday in Cromwell.
He's taking a break after this weekend's U.S. Open in New York, where he is among the leaders as of Saturday.
The 37-year-old has played the Travelers six times, never finishing better than seventh.
McIlroy is the second top player to miss this year's event. Jon Rahm of Spain is ineligible as a member of the LIV Tour.
Organizers of the Travelers Championship tout their world-class field as a top draw for fans. McIlroy's withdrawal means 48 of the world's top 50 players still plan to be there next week.
