Saying that Hartford's COVID-19 case count has stabilized and there's been virtually no transmission of the virus within the public school system, Mayor Luke Bronin and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez have extended the city's current learning plan by two weeks.
Traditional in-person school days for K-9th graders and hybrid learning for high school students will continue through at least Nov. 6th.
Mayor Bronin says Hartford's case load is "higher than we'd like it be... but we have seen that stabilization continue and, thus far, with the data we've got, a slight decrease."
In statistics released by the city, dated Oct. 15th, Hartford shows a positive test rate of 2.2% (compared to 1.9% for all of Hartford County), up 0.3% from the previous reporting period.
Dr. Torres-Rodriguez says there has been only one "probable" case of viral transmission in a Hartford school building. "If we do see any in-school transmission, we will step back and assess the entire situation."
