FARMINGTON, Connecticut (WTIC radio)
Residents waking up Sunday morning to snow and ice from a storm which arrived late Saturday afternoon as snow at the start, however overnight sleet and freezing rain mixed. Trees and power lines and cars were covered with ice causing numerous power outages. Roads and highways in Connecticut have been a mess with a number accidents. Plows and sanders have been working around the clock. The good news is temperatures will rise above freezing to near 40 degrees later Sunday melting much of the ice away. However it won't last long since temperatures are expected to drop dramatically into the single digits by Monday morning. Any standing water on roads and sidewalks will quickly refreeze. Forecasters say it will remain cold throughout the week with a chance of a potential coastal storm on Thursday. Governor Ned Lamont is putting into effect the state’s severe cold weather protocol beginning Sunday at 6pm. You can can call 2-1-1 to find warming centers or visit 211ct.org.
