(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - The Internal Revenue Service is reminding taxpayers who requested extensions in the spring that they have until October 15 to file their 2020 income tax returns.
The IRS says about 162,000 taxpayers in Connecticut filed for an extension.
Military members and others serving in combat zones generally have 180 days to file after they leave the combat zone, Spokesman Michael Devine said.
The service also suggests filing electronically if at all possible in order to speed the process.
In addition, officials suggest choosing direct deposit for refunds and schedule any federal payments to be made electronically.
