(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - The Covid-19 pandemic has taken some attention away from the number of flu cases in Connecticut so far this season.

The truth is, there haven't been many.

The latest report from the state Department of Public Health for the week ending last Saturday showed only 53 cases of influenza.

Activity is classified as "sporadic" for several weeks.

No new hospitalizations or deaths due to the flu were reported for the period.

There has been one flu death reported thus far for the entire season.

The low flu numbers have been attributed largely to the precautions and protective measures taken including mask wearing during the coronavirus pandemic, according to medical experts.
