(Hartford, Conn.WTIC) - There's new leadership in the Connecticut Republican Party.
The state GOP has chosen prosecutor Sue Hatfield as party chair.
Hatfield will finish out term of former chairman J.R. Romano, who stepped down earlier this year.
Hatfield is a former candidate for state attorney general.
She was elected among four candidates Monday vying for the top job in the party.
Hatfield, who was vice chair, will only serve the rest of Romano's term, which was to expire in June.
She says she will not seek the top job on a permanent basis.
In a statement, Hatfield said the party was at an important crossroads.
Romano served a little more than five years in the top job.
Last month, he said he was stepping aisde for the betterment of the party.
Hatfield thanked the other candidates and says she will work to bring more stability and unity to the party.
