PLANTSVILLE, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—Connecticut has become the first state in the U.S. to vaccinate all nursing home residents with the first COVID-19 vaccine dose, Governor Ned Lamont announced Friday.

The governor marked the milestone at LiveWell, a long-term care facility in Plantsville that specializes in the care of those with dementia.

"I don't know why but you're the last nursing home in the state to get your vaccines," Lamont said Friday afternoon while standing beside LiveWell officials, "but that also means that Connecticut is the first state in the country where every nursing home has gotten their vaccines for that first shot."

According to LiveWell officials, all of its residents received a shot at the first vaccination clinic set up at the facility Friday.

Two more vaccination clinics are scheduled three weeks apart to be able to offer both first and second vaccine doses for people, officials said.

Lamont called the occasion "an important big deal" considering the state's infection rate spiked up again Friday.

The state reported a positivity rate of 8.46% Friday. Lamont attributed the increase to a possible surge in cases due to holiday gatherings.
