HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Connecticut State Police have arrested and charged nearly two dozen unionized healthcare workers with trespassing following a protest on Thursday.

Healthcare workers in the SEIU 1199 New England union united around 4 p.m. Thursday outside the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management on Capitol Avenue to demand the state boost pay and healthcare benefits in the proposed two year budget.

State Police arrested 20 protestors entered the DPH building and refused to leave.

All 20 individuals were charged with criminal trespass, released on a $1,000 bond, and given a court date of Monday, April 12, 2021.

The SEIU 1199 NE, in a written statement to WTIC 1080, calls the incident "peaceful civil disobedience."

"Detentions were made when some rally goers entered the building and sat down," according to a union representative.

State police report no injuries and no use of force.
