2026 Legislative Session adjourns

Governor Lamont is expected to talk more about the end of the 2026 Regular Legislative Session.

The State House and Senate adjourned at midnight on Wednesday, putting an end to all finished and unfinished legislative business.

The Governor is likely to praise a number of Democratic priorities that did manage to cross the finish line, including the FY 2027 budget adjustment that includes more money into cities and towns for education, a new state workers contract that secures pay raises retroactive to 2025 and through 2027, and controversial measures involving Glock handgun sales, vaccines, and homeschooling oversight.

Some priorities did die on the vine, including a statewide ban on cellphones in classrooms.

The Legislature had scrapped the Governor's earlier priorities that included a $200 energy rebate or a gas tax holiday amid increased gas prices, both of which were done in favor of more money for municipalities.
