HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-The state of Connecticut has distributed $84 million in child rebate checks, serving 238-thousand families,
according to Department of Revenue Service Commissioner Mark Boughton.
The rebate was $250 per child, for up to three children per family.
Some $35 million dollars remains in the fund. Deputy DRS Commissioner John Biello said all the checks have now been sent out.
At a forum by the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, Lisa Tepper Bates said living in Connecticut is a challenge. A recent study showed a family of two with one child needs to
earn $90 thousand dollars a year to live in the state. She added that provides no room for savings.
New Haven single mother of two, Crystal Williams, said the money is crucial, especially with the high cost of food and rent. She said everything is increasing except income, leaving people "hungry, homeless and hopeless".
