HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut residents are reacting to a 4.8-magnitude earthquake out of New Jersey felt throughout the region.
Callers began to react during midday talk shows on WTIC News/Talk 1080 to feeling the rumbles that lasted about 10-15 seconds shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday.
One caller, Chris from Wolcott, remembers getting his "...haircut and the mirror almost shook off the wall...as if somebody hit the building."
"I was baking cookies, so I was standing up...and I did not feel it moving but it affected my vision and how I felt," said Janet from South Windsor during the Pastor Will Marotti Show. "It was up to 160," she exclaimed.
Quinnipiac University Associate Professor of Civil Engineering Ari Perez explains that most contemporary buildings are built to a code that can withstand this level of impact, saying "...A 4.8 would be enough to be felt but hopefully not cause extensive damage."
Listeners from all counties except Windham County in northeastern Connecticut have reported feeling the shakes.
