Weekend Event Raises Funds for Homeless in Hartford Area

(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-A weekend virtual event focuses on the plight of the less fortunate in the greater Hartford area, a sleep-out to end homelessness.

Hartford Bags of Love raises money to help the approximate one-thousand homeless in the Hartford Metropolitan area.

State Senator Saud Anwar(Democrat, SouthWindsor) says the event was started two years ago by South Windsor nine-year old Tiernan Cabot.

"He realized there were many people in the greater Hartford area that were homeless. He felt that the affluent towns had a responsibility...he made these bags filled with notes and toiletries for the homeless."  Cabot is now twelve.

Hartford Bags of Love was scheduled to be held in Nevers Road Park in South Windsor. But Covid has transformed the event into a virtual one Saturday night.

"People can participate virtually from their homes," Anwar said.

Donations can also be made to HartfordBagsofLove.org.
