There's normally no need for people to come to the rescue when an animal
gives birth. An exception to that rule came Saturday morning in Granby, where police received calls about a deer giving birth on the side of the road.
Officer Nichole Abalan checked out the scene, and, just before 9 a.m., she found a newborn fawn left alone on the side of Running Pine Road.
Officer Abalan determined that the fawn was in distress, feeling cold to the touch. Breathing, but with difficulty, it seemed.
After providing care by placing the fawn into the sunlight, Officer Abalan stepped back. As the fawn improved, the mother deer returned, and the two walked off, into the woods, says Officer Abalan.
Two hours later, firefighters came to the rescue of several dogs in Southington. The firefighters entered a burning house on Norton Street, coming out with four dogs. They had been left home alone and are now back with their owners.
They say "cats have nine lives." In Southington, these dogs now pack four under their collars.
