Hartford, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-The Connecticut branch of the American Civil Liberties Union resists efforts by the cities of New London and New Haven to mount crime-fighting cameras at busy intersections, Legal Director Dan Barrett said.
Hartford has had the cameras for years.
According to Barrett," In particular pouring money into surveillance cameras is something that's just a slap in the face, given where we've come from. Especially using Pandemic Relief Funds. We should be getting jobs, schools, healthcare and housing. Not cameras on every corner. It's very dangerous."

Barrett added," The New Haven Mayor said this could include license plate recognition....and facial recognition. This goes way beyond what happens at an intersection."
New London has declined to identify where those cameras will be placed, and Barrett said that effort will end up being overturned.
