Bristol, Conn./WTIC Radio - Bristol will be home to an active shooter training facility.

It's a first in the region for first responders.

The facility is being funded partially by a $3.15 million federal grant.

The project was born in part out of the fatal ambush shootings of two Bristol police officers in October of 2022.

A third officer who was seriously wounded took down the gunman.

Total cost of the training center will be around $8 million.

The initial fuding will go toward site location and design of the facility.
