Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Office of Inspector General has released additional details on an officer involved fatal shooting in Hartford last Thursday.

The report states a man identified as Everard Walker, 53, was suffering from what a family member said was an "acute mental health crisis".

Officers were called to assist mental health professionals at Walker's Capitol Avenue apartment.

The report states officers were initially fearful that Walker would throw a pot of hot water at them, forcing police to retreat.

Police say he pulled a knife during a struggle that also involved his son, daughter and officers.

Walker was then shot and died at St. Francis Hospital.

The medical examiner says Walker died from gunshot wounds to the torso, neck and right upper extremity.

His death has been ruled a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing.
