HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - AETNA CVS Health announces it plans to lay off 5,000 corporate positions this year.
There is no explanation, at this time, how the job cuts will affect positions regionally or nationally.
When CVS and AETNA merged in 2018, the bulk of corporate CVS jobs remained in Hartford. It remains unclear what staffing levels there are as of 2023, and it remains yet to be seen how the announced cuts will affect these positions.
First-District Congressman John Larson (D-CT) issued a statement:
“First and foremost, my thoughts are with the thousands of families that these layoffs will impact, and I am committed to doing whatever my office can do to help those workers recover. It is disappointing to see five years after the merger of CVS Health and Aetna, the company is making significant layoffs and it raises questions about the impact large corporate mergers are having on employees, shareholders, and the public. Aetna CVS Health employs thousands of workers in our state and we must ensure they can continue to support their families.”
The cuts would reflect a 2% reduction in workforce. The company employs over 300,000 people.
