Fairfield, Conn./WTIC Radio - Two Fairfield teenagers are facing charges after police say the pair were building homemade explosives last month.

Police say one of the devices went off, causing serious hand injuries to one of the suspects.

Under arrest are Nathaniel Lennon, 19, and Dan Calarco, 18, both from Fairfield.

It was December 1st that police were notified by an area hospital that one of the teens was injured.

Detectives, along with the FBI and Stamford Police Bomb Squad worked the case.

They determined that the devices were made from materials the two purchased online and at retail outlets.

Police say the pair brought the devices to a secluded area of Pine Creek Marsh where two were detonated, one exploded causing the injuries and one was destroyed by the bomb squad.

Both are facing charges of reckless endangerment and breach of peace and due in court later this month.
