New Britain, Conn./WTIC Radio - Police have made arrests in connection with the discovery and death of a girl in New Britain.

New Britain police say Jacqueline Torres, 12, whose remains were found last week in a large container in the rear of an abandoned residence, likely died in the fall of 2024.

Investigators in Farmington say the child's mother and others kept Jacqueline's body in the basement for much of a year, moving it from that town in March of this year.

Detectives determined Jacqueline likely suffered physiscal abuse and malnourishment before she died.

Under arrest are her mother, Karla Garcia, 29, who faces charges including murder with special circumstances and her aunt, Jackelyn Garcia, 28, who is charged with cruelty to a person under 19.

In addition, Karla Garcia's boyfriend, Jonatan Nanita, 30, is being sought on a murder warrant.
