Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - President Biden has issued an emergency declaration for parts of Connecticut in wake of the recent heavy rain and flooding.
On Saturday, Biden authorized FEMA to begin to "coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population."
The move is aimed primarily at New London County, as well as the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribal Nations.
FEMA will be tasked to identify those areas with specific needs and mobilize equipment and resources needed to respond to the emergency.
FEMA coordinating officer Robert Fogel will oversee the operation.
Last week, a leak developed in a dam on the Bozrah-Norwich town line the prompted a brief mandatory evacuation.
Friday into Saturday, more heavy rain drenched the area, forcing closures on roads in Groton and Mystic which became impassible due to flooding.
