Bridgeport, Conn./WTIC - A beach is Bridgeport is being shuttered for the rest of the summer.
City leaders say after consultation with state environmental officicals, the discovery of mulitple tick species at Pleasure Beach has forced them to take the action.
One of the ticks that's shown up is the invasive Asian longhorned tick.
The city will now undertake a series of treatment and containment efforts in the area.
In addition, the city says there has been a significant increase in protected Audobon bird species nesting on the island, so they want to curb human interference.
Officials also say the Pleasure Beach fishing pier will be closed as well.
The hope is the beach will reopen next year.
