The Bridgeport Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own, killed in an off-duty motorcycle crash Monday morning.
Officer Cooper Whiteside and his passenger died when the motorcycle he was operating collided with another vehicle on Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury.
Danbury police say the driver of the Jeep Compass was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Whiteside, 38, of Danbury, and passenger Brittany Islami, 34, of New Milford, were found lying in the roadway near the motorcycle.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter said in part, "Officer Whiteside served with honor and dignity, beginning in July 2024. He will be greatly missed. We send our condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers.”
Danbury police continue to investigate the crash.
