Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - It was a rare Saturday session for the state legislature as the Democratic controlled House and Senate passed budget adjustments for FY-2027.

The package gives $193 million in supplemental education grants to cities and towns.

Many local leaders say it's a relief to them, given the budget issues they're facing on their end.

Governor Lamont also says there's $300 million to fund the Early Childcare education endowment.

And $100 million has been set aside for property tax relief.

Lamont is expected to sign the package before lawmakers adjourn the short session on Wednesday.

Also on Saturday came word that longtime Democratic state senate President Martin Looney is hanging it up.

The New Haven lawmaker announced he'll not be seeking reelection.

Looney's been in the legislature for over 40 years, beginning in the House, where he served for 12 of those years.
