Storrs, Conn./WTIC Radio - UConn women's basketball standout Paige Bueckers has been named the Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The redshirt junior is the first Husky to be so honored since Maya Moore was recognized in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

The selection was made by the Conference’s Academic Awards Selection Committee.

In addition to her exploits on the court, Bueckers, who is working toward a Bachelor's degree in human development and family studies, is carrying a 3.497 GPA.

She's been named to the Dean's list four times.

A year after a season-ending knee injury, Bueckers has come back to average 22 point per game in 18 Big East contests.

Bueckers has also found time to donate to the Hopkins West Junior High School grocery store and the UConn Foundation.

On Tuesday, Bueckers was nominated for the Ann Myers Drysdale Award honoring the top shooting guard in the country.
