NEW LONDON, CONN.(WTIC Radio)-U.S Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visits the New London/Groton area Wednesday to celebrate the awarding of $158-million dollars
in federal funding for repairs to the Goldstar Memorial Bridge.
The bridge is the longest in Connecticut and the $400-million project is the one of four to receive federal funding nationwide.
DOT Spokesman Joh Morgan said this current project involves the installation of 160-thousand rivets and bolts on the underside of the span.
He said another key component of the project is a Project Labor Agreement which allows people to enter the trades and learn through apprenticeships.
Buttigieg will be joined by Governor Ned Lamont and the federal delegation.
