New London, Conn./WTIC Radio - Investigators in New London have determined the cause of last week's fatal house fire.

The fire marshal's office says the blaze at a home on Chapel Drive was electrical in nature involving an outlet failure in which the build up of heat ignited combustible material.

In addition, there were no working smoke alarms on either floor of the house.

The fire killed prominent physician Dr. Daniel Moalli, 90, and his wife Glenna, 77.

Dr. Moalli was a retired neurologist at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.

Glennna worked at L&M hospital the Infectious Diseases Department.

Fire officials say the tragedy drives home the importance having smoke detectors on every level of a house, testing them monthly, and replacing them after ten years.
