Thompson, Conn./WTIC Radio - State police are charging a man from Thompson with embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a local church.
Troopers say Bruce Hall, 65, of Thompson, took over $33,000 from Thompson Congregational Church.
They say the thefts took place between April and September of 2025.
In a state police affidavit, detectives say church officials told them any amount $5,000 or less needs the approval of the church board.
Amounts over $5,000 must be approved by the entire congregation.
It goes on to say that there was evidence of Hall writing unauthorized checks to himself and other entities.
The investigation included a review of meeting minutes, interviews with parishioners, and emails, among other things.
It also says Hall and his wife were assisting with fundraising and grant writing, and that Hall gained the title of "Rebuild Committee Chair."
Hall is charged with larceny.
Bond was set at $150,000.
