Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - On Saturday, cities and towns across Connecticut will be holding gun buybacks.
The purpose is to allow those with unwanted firearms an opportunity to get rid of them safely.
In Hartford, the buyback runs from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and takes place at the city's public works facility on 50 Jennings Road.
Stop and Shop gift cards will be distributed, depending on the type of firearm turned in.
In addition, gun owners can pick up a safe in which to store their legal firearm while supplies last.
Trigger locks will also be made available.
Police ask those planning to attend to place their unwanted firearm in a bag or box prior to entering the facility, where they'll be greeted by a uniformed officer.
