Marlborough, Conn./WTIC Radio - A contingent of firefighters from Connecticut is headed out west to battle wildfires.

Sixteen members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew left Tuesday from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Eastern District headquarters in Marlborough.

They flew out of Bradley International Airport for a multi-week deployment where they will work primarily out of western Montana.

Connecticut has sent personnel and resources this summer to assist with national and Canadian wildfire response.

A dozen of the CIFC members are from Connecticut; the rest of the crew is made up of volunteers from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York.

Members also deployed earlier this year to assist firefighters in Quebec and Nova Scotia.
