SUFFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Five corrections officers were taken to a local hospital after an inmate overdosed at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield.

Five officers responded to a cell where an inmate appeared to be having an overdose around 1 1 a.m. Friday.

The inmate was administered a dose of Narcan before they were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The five officers later reported feeling dizzy and tingling in their extremities. They also reported feeling extremely hot.

Officials say the five officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment, as well.

The inmate has been arrested for conveyance of an unauthorized item, police said.

The Connecticut Department of Correction did not say how the drugs entered the prison facility in Suffield but did say Connecticut State Police have been notified of the incident, which remains under investigation.
